I am a carrier of Hemophilia A and also have a moderate platelet dysfunction that I passed on to my daughter. All we have ever been told is that it is a qualitative disorder, meaning we have the right amount of platelets, but they just don’t work right. My daughter has struggled with getting her periods under control and even more so since her medicine was recalled. She is on a college soccer scholarship and the school and doctor’s want to blame every injury on her bleeding disorder and advised her to quit soccer, her love since she has been 3 years old. I will never forget the day she called me sobbing to tell me that, asking me why guys with severe bleeding disorders are encouraged to do whatever they want/can do and yet a girl with a moderate dysfunction is told to quit. It wasn’t fair. I vowed to do whatever we could, if she wanted to still play. We have a new amazing hematologist closer to her college, who is running genetic testing and I will continue to stand by her in this fight, and ALL girls who need answers!!
